"Fibonacci on Jupiter" Incredible One of a Kind Wall Hanging Image
"Fibonacci on Jupiter"
This piece takes inspiration from the Fibonacci spiral—a mathematical ratio found throughout nature and in many everyday objects. Also known as the Golden Ratio, this proportion has been used in the design of countless innovations, including smartphones, architecture, and works of art.

Artist Curtis Babbitt shares:
“At first, the goal was twofold: to create a beautiful, thought-provoking piece of art while cleverly disguising a large electrical panel in the room. As I began selecting wood veneer, I had what Bob Ross might call a ‘happy accident.’ The tiger maple, once stained, strikingly resembled the colorful storm bands of the planet Jupiter—and everything clicked into place.”

Another striking feature is the interpretation of Jupiter’s iconic Great Red Spot, crafted using padauk, Carpathian burl elm, and Mappa burl. Additional woods featured in the piece include quilted bubinga, cherry, maple, and purpleheart. The sliding mechanism in the design was also an unexpected but welcome discovery—another “happy accident.”

This large-scale wall art would make a stunning focal point in a public space or a private home, blending mathematical elegance with natural beauty and craftsmanship. The artist, Curtis Babbitt, was commissioned by Jane Ingleman and Hal Jordan to make it. They have generously donated it to GMAEC  and the Jingle Mingle Auction as they have recently downsized their home. They would love for it to find a home where it will be enjoyed by many.

This piece must be seen in person to be truly appreciated. It is not at GMAEC due to its size.  A showing is available upon request.
